UK Diary 3 Videos

A laneway in Canterbury. One of the towers of the cathedral in the background looking almost ghostly.
The obligatory outside view of Canterbury Cathedral
And the obligatory inside photos
again (and they are stunning shots aren't they?)
and again
Julie in the Cloister
Main square area of Canterbury town
Street view with one of the city gates in the back.
The Battle of Britain Memorial in Capel-le-Ferne just outside Dover.
Me trying vainly to imitate the statue. At the same memorial. No offence intended.
The white cliffs of Dover taken from the memorial. The cliffs are bigger and whiter just north of Dover but we couldn't stop to take a photo.
Dover Castle.
A view over the Roman Pharos through to Dover Harbour.
The better ocean front streetscape at Hastings.

Right next to the more built up streetscape.

Met a Canadian couple and their son who wanted us to take a photo of them. Sure I said, but you must reciprocate. The beard growth is to keep my face warm. Hastings waterfront.
Welcome to Battle (1066)
Battle Abbey, from the battlegrounds
More of the battlegrounds of 1066
The Abbey (partial ruins, again, thanks to Henry VIII the destroyer)
Bodiam Castle
More Bodiam Castle
Even more
Inside view from one of the turrets.
Julie with an owl at Bodiam Castle
Me with one sitting on my glove.
Rudyard Kiplings home
A bust of the man himself
The gardens at Rudyards place
The back yard, with the pool.
The Royal Pavillion in Brighton. Built by George IV.
He began building it when he was a 21 year old prince. Extravagance personified. Interior photography prohibited, sadly.
Hayley wanted us to visit Choccywoccydoodah in Brighton. We initially found this cafe that is associated with them, then later the real thing. I suspect the one near Carnaby St London is better.
Brighton waterfront
Surfers Paradise, but low rise.
More of the foreshore frontage
The "Brighton Pier"
The "sand" of Brighton beach
A clothes shop in Brighton had all these old sewing machines in the window as their marketing tool.
Hundreds of them
It is not only Dover that has white cliffs. This is at Brighton Marina
Some 2000 year old mosaic flooring at the Fishbourne Roman Palace.
Julie with an old figurehead
Me with Nelson as used as a figurehead
HMS Victory. Captained by Nelson himself at Trafalgar. Beautifully restored, but still an ongoing project.
We did a ferry tour of Portsmouth Harbour.
A World War 2 memorial in Southampton, the numbers are pretty staggering
Part of the old city wall in Southampton.
Heading in to Salisbury town.
The old City Gate at Salisbury.
Salisbury Cathedral
and again
and again. No wonder John Constable found it to be such a brilliant subject for his paintings.
A new font. It is not a glass top, it is water which is flowing all the time and spilling over at 4 points.
The inside from ground level (literally, I set the small tripod on the floor)
From halfway up. This was during our tower tour.
More of the tower tour, note the wooden spiral staircase!
A view down on the main part of the cathedral from the tower. Very high.
Julie in reflection of the font. This font has 4 overflows at each point, so it is amazing it can be so still with the water running through the system.
Monpesson House, next to the cathedral in Salisbury. The home of Mr Monpesson, used in the film "Sense and sensibility".
Julie in the ruins of Old Sarem Castle
The ruins of the Cathedral at Old Serum.
An information board at the castle ruins. There is a job for someone here.
OK, you don't want to have claustrophobia either. Lack of sense of smell would help too.
Our van, in relation to the cathedral in the background. Taken from the Old Serum Castle site.
The Avon River (yes, the same one Stratford is on) running into Salisbury. The town is at the confluence of 5 rivers
The Mill, a pub in Salisbury where we managed to have an afternoon tea alfresco.
OK, no prizes for guessing here. Stonehenge on the Salisbury Plains.
An amazing place, far better than expected.
The canal at Seend, next to where we stayed. The canal runs through Bath to Bristol. I just changed my mind about doing a canal trip.
A pair of swans with the new family in tow. On the canal at Caen Locks. This photo is mainly for Hayley!
One of the locks showing how it works.
Looking down the hill. There are 29 locks in 2 miles that takes 5 to 6 hours.
Part of the circle of stones making up the Avebury Henge.
Julie near the stones.
I tried to push one over but it was a bit too heavy.
Avebury Manor, apparently the subject of a BBC series, the Manor Reborn showing it's renovation and rejuvenation.
The wellies at work.
